Buff Sandstone Female Head, Northern India, circa 2nd century

The finely carved head of a female with an elaborate coiffure with a lalatika set within a carefully defined double parting, this style of coiffure is directly reminiscent of the Yakshi figures from the temple railing at Mathura but the buff sandstone suggests a different site for the current example which can be compared to the sandstone head in the Eleanor and Morris Everett collection.
