Catalogue Note

Margaret Hislop (née Grant) was born in West Calder and was trained at Westminster School of Art and at Edinburgh College of Art where she won her diploma in 1916. She exhibited many still lifes at the Royal Scottish Academy many of which, like the two pictures offered in this sale, demonstrate a similarity with the work of her friend Anne Redpath. She married the artist Andrew Healey Hislop and they travelled extensively together, to Canada, Ceylon, Egypt and India. Her work is represented at sveral galleries in Scotland and also further affield in Australia and America.
