Catalogue Note
John Southern the founder of the Thorburn Museum eloquently described this beautiful snow scene in 1986 thus; 'The snow lies deep upon the woodland ride. A group of pheasants prepare for yet another bitter night amid the frozen branches. As the sun dips behind the trees, lengthening the shadows at the close of this winter's day, the birds seek their last morsel before winging up to their roost upon the bar boughs.' (John Southern, Thorburn's Birds and Mammals, 1986, p. 70)
