the enamelled chapter ring with Arabic numbers enclosing a gilt-brass automaton scene of Vulcan's forge with putti grinding and striking Cupid's arrows activated by strike trains, set within a drum-shaped case surmounted by an eagle and raised on columnar supports enclosing a mirrored alcove with a stained and inlaid floor, upon a plinth base of serpentine outline, the whole mounted with gilt-brass mounts.
