Description

  • height 5 3/4 in. (14.5cm)
modelled seated supporting a double-gourd form satchel on his back, fitted with an ormolu cap and set on a ormolu foliate scrollwork base. Satchel restored back on.

Catalogue Note

The model forming the pair to the present example is illustrated by W. B. Honey, French Porcelain of the 18th Century, pl. 44A. Enamelled versions of the present model were sold at Sotheby's, London, May 1, 1956, lot 111 and Christie's East, New York, January 30, 1985, lot 113. A colored pair, mounted in ormolu as candelabra, was offered at Christie's, London, October 15, 1990, lot 12.
