Description

  • height 3 7/8 in. (9.8cm)
of flattened pear form, painted on each side with flower sprays between fluted or gadrooned borders picked out in blue and puce or iron-red enamel, the shoulders set with finely painted female masks, firing fault to edge of foot.

Catalogue Note

A scent bottle of this form, derived from a Meissen model,  is illustrated by Giuseppe Morazzoni, Le Porcelaine Italiane, Vol. II, p. 204. Another was sold in these rooms, October 16, 1979, lot 6. An example with male Turkish masks, but othewise identical, was in the Collection of Henry C. and Martha L. Isaacson, exhibited by Armin Allen, June 1989, Bury Street, London.
