with Paris presenting the golden apple to the Three Graces, the entire scene incorporating the gods of Mount Olympus, inscribed on the reverse Sententia di paris data / ale tre dee sopra il pomo / doro.

Catalogue Note

A bowl bearing the same composition is in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and a plate painted with a similar composition is illustrated in Lessman, Italienische Majolika, Braunschweig, 1979, p. 205, no. 196.

The present compostion is based on a design by Raphael which was engraved by Marcantonio Raimondi.
