Catalogue Note

Alexander Morton & Co. was a leading Scottish manufacturer of Arts and Crafts carpets at the end of the 19th century. From 1867 onwards they had been producing textiles for the British and American markets and in 1896 they established a carpet weaving factory at Killybegs in Donegal, Ireland that combined the hand-knotting techniques used by Belgian weavers with the appealing graphic designs popularised by such contemporary designers as William Morris and C. F. A. Voysey.
