Catalogue Note

In 1930 Ruhlmann was commissioned by the Cité Universitaire Internationale de Paris to produce simple furniture for the student dormitories. He was one of a number of internationally renowned designers who worked on the project: Le Corbusier oversaw the Swiss and Brazilian houses, Cambodia by Boris Lacroix and the provinces of France by Printz, Jallot and Ruhlmann. For an example of the desk by Ruhlmann from this commission see Sotheby's Paris, Arts Décoratifs du XXe Siècle, 16th May 2006, lot 89.
