painted metal simulating wood, of spherical form, the cover enclosing a decanter and six small glasses

Catalogue Note

It is believed that there are only three known examples of this form by Brandt produced by Ruppel, and they are understood to be custom made. The words 'Gut Holz' translate to 'Good Wood', meaning 'Good Luck', and it is a customary phrase in Germany when one goes bowling. Given the shape and colour of the current lot it is possible that it was commissioned for a bowling club.
