DIM (Décoration Intérieure Moderne), France

The design studio Décoration Intérieure Moderne was founded in Paris in 1914, by René Joubert and Georges Mouveau; Joubert formed a new partnership in 1924 with Philippe Petit.  D.I.M. produced furnishings, lighting and textiles, both designed by the studio and by freelance designers, including, for carpets,  Moser,  Ekman,  Bénédictus, and  Boberman.  The individual designers were not attributed, but rather each D.I.M. carpet was identified with the studio marque.

The lot offered here captures perfectly the spirit of the Modernist era with its industrial motifs (factory roofs and chimneys) rendered into flat rythmic pattern, to create a design of immense sophistication and drama.
