Description

each of squat cylindrical form, with a funnel-shaped cover with recessed central drainage hole, the cover of each with four iron-red bats, swooping amid cloud swirls and leafy lotus scrolls, the sides encircled with a double ruyi-head border, the sides of the box similarly decorated with bats, the interior and base glazed turquoise

Catalogue Note

One of the brushwashers has been damaged, most likely it was broken in half and then restuck and repainted.  There are traces of repainting visible (but too insignificant to see from the catalogue illustration).  The gilding on the mouthrim has been repainted.  Otherwise the other brushwasher and both covers are in good condition overall.  The enamels are well preserved, with virtually no loss to the gilding.
