Description
the Buddha of Infinite life gilded overall, superbly modelled seated in dhyanasana with both hands held together in dhyanamudra to support a kalasha containing the elixir of immortality (now missing), the facial features finely rendered with eyes slightly downcast to provide a serene expression, the hair enamelled blue partially falling down the shoulders, the rest swept into a high topknot and secured by an ornamental jewel worn behind the five-leaf diadem, the shoulders draped with a billowing scarf which is wrapped around the lower arms, the bare chest adorned with an intricate beaded necklace with jewels picked out in green and red enamels, wearing a dhoti with a diaper border, the loose folds falling over the crossed legs, held in place with a beaded belt, seated on a triangular waisted lotus petal base, the countersunk base with a cache, eight-character mark in underglaze-blue to the front hem of the dhoti reading Da Qing Qianlong Xinmao nianzhi (corresponding to 1771)
