Description

of baluster shape, the waisted neck flanked by two pierced chilong scrolling handles painted red and picked out in gilt, the main body enamelled in soft tones of the 'famille rose' palette with a continuous figural landscape scene, depicting immortals and scholars engaged in various pursuits, below the dark blue ground neck, embellished in gold enamel with two medallions of bats, musical stones and peach, surrounded by a meandering lotus scroll, below a ruyi band at the rim, the foot with a similar lotus scroll above a key fret and lappet band, the interior and base glazed turquoise (hardwood stand)

Chan Wing (1873-1947), a wealthy Cantonese businessman was one of the leading personalities of pre-World War II Kuala Lumpur. Originally a poor migrant, he was later to become a leading tycoon during the inter-war years.
