of shallow circular form resting on a wide short foot, finely carved through the black lacquer to the interior with three large peony blooms on a leafy and budding stem, the petals and leaves gently incised with delicate lines to depict the veining, the details picked out in varying levels of relief to give a three-dimensional effect, the underside of the rim carved with a spiral scroll design
