Description
the Daoist immortal Shou Lao portrayed sitting on gnarled and pierced rockwork, with sharply defined facial features, the hair of his beard incised in fine lines, his mouth open in a broad smile, with a characteristic tall bulging forehead and bald scalp, wearing loosely draped robes falling at his feet, a ruyi sceptre in his right hand and a peach on his left, with a bat on his left shoulder, with seven boys playing with auspicious bats and ruyi sceptres clambering over him and around his sides, a recumbent stag on his right flank, and a crane behind his left shoulder looking behind, the wood of golden-brown tone with shiny patina
Catalogue Note
Shou Lao is the leader of the Daoist immortals, and is known as the God of Longevity. He is often depicted with a stag and the peaches of immortality.
