naturalistically carved in the form of a twisted pine tree trunk, issuing a gnarled branch with many clusters of pine needles, the dark wood with a smooth patina, with a fitted hardwood base
Catalogue Note
The use of chenxiangmu (lignaloes) in China was quite rare and the wood was held in high esteem. Similar to sandalwood, chenxiangmu has a distinct and striking fragrance and was used as incense, making this present piece all the more unique.
