A Safavid silk and metal thread brocade sash fragment, Central Persia,

The body of the sash offered here is decorated with small feathery plant motifs overlaid with lobed cartouches enclosing plants, see Neumann, R. and Murza, G., Persische Seiden, Leipzig, 1988, Fig. 70, p. 157 and cat. No. 51, p. 270 for a fragment of apparently identical brocade from the Kunstgewerbemuseum, Berlin (Inv. No. 1978,288). The ends are decorated with five lyrically drawn twin-handled vases filled with roses, carnations and iris.
