Catalogue Note

For an agedyna from the Villands district with closely related stylised shield palmettes or leaves see: Black, David and Loveless, Clive (eds.), with Willborg, Peter, Flatweaves from Fjord and Forest: Scandinavian Tapestries of the 18th and 19th Centuries, London, 1984, no 25, pp. 66-7.  In that instance the palmettes are all aligned in one direction whereas here they turn back to face themselves two thirds of the way through the design.   According to Black and Loveless ibid., p. 45, the small 'S' motifs are typical of weavings from Kristianstad and Göinge.
