Catalogue Note
This charming Swedish tapestry woven textile is formatted as an agedyna, a double cushion made for use in carriages on family outings. The lightning-bolt, or vigg design is seen on some of the earliest cushions and is associated with Skåne production. In this example the archaic zig-zag repeat has been adapted to form a column of serrated medallions along the central axis. For an example of a traditional lightning-bolt agedyna see: Willborg, J. P., Skånsk Allmogevävnad 1700-1850, ex. cat., Stockholm, 1989, nos. 9 and 10.
