A rare Minton majolica vase and cover circa 1865

probably representing Tragedy, of ovoid form raised on a narrow circular foot, the body moulded with six grimacing clasical masks amongst ivy against a turquoise ground, the short neck with a frieze of gadroons and applied with two ram's head handles, the domed and fluted cover surmounted by a snake curled around the scroll-moulded knop
