Catalogue Note
The Liverpool version of this group was adapted from the Chelsea model. The source of inspiration for the Chelsea model is generally attributed to the potter Berthelemy de Blenod, working from about 1580 onwards at Avon, near Fontainebleau.
For a discussion of the model, see B.Watney, `The King, the Nun, and other figures', English Ceramics Circle Transactions, vol. 7, part , 1968; and B.Watney, Liverpool Porcelain of the Eighteenth Century, p.118.
