Description

  • indistinct impressed marks of a swan above 'PESARO/&M...'(?)
  • 68.5cm., 27in.
of ovoid form with flared neck and mounted on a domed foot, applied with double snake handles above maskes and painted in Istoriato style with a continuous landscape scenes with buildings by a river to one side and a Biblical scene to the reverse, including a depiction of Joseph sold into slavery (Gen. 37)

Catalogue Note

The mark does not appear to be recorded in the literature; the factory of Vincenco Molaroni in Pesaro appears to have specialised in istioriato-style vessels in the late 19th and 20th centuries. See G.B. Ugolini, Ceramiche Pesaresi dal XVIII al XX secolo, no.225, for a vase decorated in 16th century style.
