  • shield marks in underglaze-blue, impressed date codes 827, incised marks, gilder's numeral 77 for Georg Gmendt
  • 41.5cm., 16 3/8 in.
of ovoid form with a flared neck and foot with integral pedestal, mounted on a rectangular plinth, each finely painted by Lorenz Herr with a continuous scene depicting putti with various attributes and animals, emblematic of the Four Elements, each signed and dated 'L.Herr 1827', above a burnished gilt band tooled with foliate panels, the neck and lower body with gilt stiff-leaf borders, the gilt feet and pedestals tooled with foliate borders

Catalogue Note

Lorenz Herr (1787-?) was a genre, landscape and portrait painter at the Vienna manufactory from 1804, having attended the Vienna Academy at the age of 12. The gilder Georg Gmendt (d.1828) was employed at the Vienna manuactory between 1791 and 1828.
