Description

  • traces of lustre marks to some pieces
  • the teapot and cover: 9.5cm., 3 3/4 in.
decorated in Augsburg, probably by Abraham Seuter, each piece painted in Schwarzlot with landscape vignettes including figures, animals and buildings, the tea caddy, teabowls and slop bowl also with exotic birds perched on branches, supported by silver Laub- und Bandelwerk pedestals and with silvered rims edged with C-scroll borders, the teapot cover attached to the silvered handle and spout by a chain, comprising:
a teapot and cover
a slop bowl
a tea caddy and cover
four teabowls and four saucers

A similarly decorated tea caddy and cover, sold in these Rooms, 10th March 1970, lot 60, is published by S. Ducret, Meißner Porzellan, vol.I, no.313, where the decoration is attributed to Abraham Seuter.
