the waisted cylindrical form painted on both sides with various masonic emblems in red and yellow below floral sprays in opaque-white

Catalogue Note
The present lot would appear to be one of the larger examples of a Beilby masonic tumbler. With slightly different opaque-white floral decoration and of smaller size, the type is to be seen in the example illustrated by J.Rush, The Ingenious Beilbys, p.113, pl.65, now in the Corning Museum of Glass. That example and its companion, both at 3 inches tall, were last sold in these rooms, 15th December 1975, lot 106 and 6th March 1978, lot 86.
A set of four masonic beakers, dated 1768, of the smaller 3 inch size, were sold at Christie's South Kensington, 7th July 2005, lot 787
