Catalogue Note

"Its a gloomy world." A typically pessimistic note, regarding financial arrangements, probably written within a year of Porter's death in October 1964: "I enclose two signed notes which Lloyd Smith sent to me. Interest to the amount of three hundred and fifty three dollars is due, and I leave it to your discretion as to where the money is coming from. I suppose it will have to come out of my January check, but maybe you could persuade the bank to take half now and get the other half out of my February check. I suppose this is totally nonsensical, as a suggestion.

"I'm still laid up in bed with prostate trouble and it's a gloomy world."
