Charleston [title on cover and first page of text]. [N.p.: H. C. Koenig, 1936]
22 memeographed leaves (11 x 8 1/2 in.; 279 x 216 mm), text on rectos only, 3 photostats after drawings and maps by Lovecraft. Original brown paper folder with typed paper label on front cover. 2 leaves of photostats on Lovecraft's holograph errata laid in.
Second edition. One of less than 50 copies. Charleston began as a letter to H. C. Koenig, who was planning a trip to South Carolina. Koenig was so impressed with the letter that he produced a few copies (probably fewer than 25). He then asked Lovecraft to rewite the letter in essay form. Lovecraft complied, making minor changes to the text. Koenig estimated that he printed between 30 and 50 copies of the second printing, issuing them in simple brown paper folder. The errata leaves are scarce.
A fine copy.
