Catalogue Note

An admirer of Dostoevsky's writing. To a lady who has written to express her great admiration of one of his novels, Dostoevsky warmly thanks her for such kind words and hopes to see her in the near future. Unfortunately, Dostoevsky gives no clues in his letter as to which of his novels so impressed his lady admirer. Virtually all of the works for which the author is best known had appeared during this latter part of his life; only The Brothers Karamazov, published in 1879–1880, was still to come.

Letters by Dostoevsky are of the greatest rarity at auction.
