Uniformed bust of Captain Cook facing left; to either side, CAPT•/JAMES COOK/DISCOVERER OF/HAWAII — IN GOD/WE TRUST, reverse, E•PLURIBUS/UNUM, in left field; 1778 1928 below. Hawaiian warrior holding staff with arm outstretched toward Diamond Head. (M-R 2CX-1). Brilliant Uncirculated with pale toning (encapsulated in NGC holder as MS 64).
Catalogue Note
Struck to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Cook's arrival in the Sandwich Islands, the coin was designed by Hawaiian Juliette May Frazer, and the proceeds from their issuance were used to set up an exhibit on Cook in the Territorial Archives.
