Description

A fascinating collection of approximately 117 candid photographs compiled, and presumably taken, by an unknown resident of the Hawaiian Islands, ca. 1920s. Various sizes (some trimmed), gelatin silver prints, direct-mounted or secured by corner tabs to heavy black sheets, on rectos only, many photographs with manuscript captions on the mount. The album (7 1/4 x 11 3/8 in.; 186 x 288 mm) bound in black buckram.

Catalogue Note

A "native" photo album. This album is especially intriguing because it was clearly assembled by a resident of the Hawaiian Islands, not a tourist. The photographs include fine views of Maui; studies of Hawaiian cowboys and other agricultural workers; and many gatherings of the Wong family.
