Fine group of six documents illustrative of the business of Whaling, including 4 printed documents accomplished in manuscript, and 2 manuscript documents consisting of payment orders, blacksmith's invoices for rings, plates and bushings, a cooper's invoice for casks and shooks, plus a cover letter for a bill of lading, relating to the whaling ships Massachusetts, Harrison, Oliver Crocker, and Syren. Honolulu, Hawai'i, 14 December 1859 - 18 January 1864

The group consists of: John G. Dennis, Master of ship Harrison. Bill of Exchange to Morgan Fine and Co. Honolulu, 14 December 1859. Engraved document with manuscript accomplishment, whale vignette. — John de Dominis, for C. Brewer & Co. Autograph letter signed. To H.W. Seabury, in New Bedford. 1 p. Honolulu, 27 March 1860. Cover letter mentioning an enclosed bill of lading (not present) for 30 casks of whale oil forwarded for shipment by Captain David Cochrane of the ship Oliver Crocker “now lying at Lahaina” and reporting that the Syren will leave for New Bedford in the coming month. — Williams. Bond for delivery of the seaman J. Howland on board the Massachusetts. Honolulu, 15 January 1864. Printed document with manuscript accomplishment. — F. S. Pratt, cooper.
