Description
- twelve grisaille enamel oval portraits of emperors
the profile portraits with green laurel wreathes and inscribed around, in later giltwood frames (12)
Catalogue Note
Compare with four circular medallions of the emperors in the Louvre by Jacques I Laudin ( 1627-1695) which were formerly part of a set of twelve. Baratte suggests that the heads were ultimately inspired by engravings by Marcantonio Raimondi or Henrick Goltzius.
