Catalogue Note

This sixteenth century enamel roundel would originally have formed part of a decorative, panelled interior. It can be closely compared with, and is possibly from the same series as, the roundel of Julius Caesar in the Louvre and the one of Nero in the Musee Dobrée de Nantes.
