Probably English, late14th/15th century
A  LEAD AND TIN ALLOY TOY MODEL OF A SOLDIER

Catalogue Note

By the very nature of the material used such toys are rare. Compare with the hollow cast knights, illustrated by Egan and dating to the fourteenth century, in particular fig 5 where the fragmentary figure is very close to the present example. The  knights illustrated by Egan were found on the foreshore of the Thames where the thick mud prevented the corrosion caused by oxygen.
