Catalogue Note

Another cast of this model, described as Florentine 16th century, was sold in these rooms 12th July 1979, lot 145. Its proximity to the model of Christ at the Column by Prieur can be noted but the physique of the present bronze is slighter and the mood more reflective. Comparisons have also been drawn with Germain Pilon's marble figure of the Risen Christ begun in 1572 and two figures of the Virgin and St. John attributed to his circle offered in these rooms 11th July 2001, lot 107.
