Catalogue Note

The haunting intensity in the face of the Virgin, coupled with the soft but deep folds of the drapery can be compared with work by sculptors working within the circle of Michel Erhart. Note in particular the Pieta dated to circa 1480 in the parish church of Reichenbach im Tale illustrated by Guillot de Suiduiraut and the Pieta in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum illustrated by Muller.
