Description

  • Pierre Roussel (the elder) received master in 1745 and settled in the Rue de Charenton. Roussel was a famous ébéniste who worked during the reign of Louis XV and whose oeuvre consisted of many various pieces. Between 1775 and 1780 Roussel received commission for the Prince de Condé and supplied him with 10.000 livres worth of furniture. The inventory after Roussel's death reveals that a large amount of furniture was lacquered or veneered in tulipwood, bois satiné or amaranth. Many pieces were inlaid with parquetry or with a marquetry of flowers or landscapes. Roussel employed the services of various bronziers such as Turchin, Ravrio and the gilder Trufot.
