Catalogue Note
First created in 1808 by Louis Simon Boizot, the sculptor responsible for this particular model was probably Alexander Brachard, who was paid in March 1808 for producing a bust of Alexander.
Napoleon and Alexander I signed the Treaty of Tilsit on 7th July 1807. Lavish presents were exchanged between the two nations. The Sèvres factory records list Boizot as providing a design of a bust of Alexander I to be produced in porcelain after a miniature marble bust of the Tsar in marble. The bust is mentioned in the Exhibition catalogue, Louis Simon Boizot, Lambinet Museum, 2001-02, no.117.
We are most grateful to Madame Tamara Préaud for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
