rectangular, the first painted with a couple in early 19th century dress, the lady with her head on the gentleman's shoulder, height 9.3cm, 3 5/8 in; the second maker's mark VB, Paris, circa 1900, painted with tavern scenes, the lid with a serving woman filling bottles from a barrel, the base with a serving woman trying to escape the clutches of a loutish patron, width 8.3cm 3 1/4 in; the third apparently unmarked, painted with Emma Calvé on a flight of steps, height 7.8cm, 3 1/8 in
