containing 46 watercolours by Helen Rose Huth with another four watercolours by different artists, many being locations in Possingworth, East Sussex and Scalpay and other Hebridean locations, others including studies of plants; 65 photographs of buildings, landscapes, and persons; another five photographic reproductions of paintings; six pen-and-ink or pencil sketches; transcriptions of various poems and prose pieces mostly by Victorian writers, in a calligraphic hand, often with pen-and-ink floral borders; most items dated from Possingworth, c.225 pages in total, in brown morocco gilt-stamped "H.R.H.", metal lock and corner-pieces, gilt edges, 1890s-1900s, rubbed at joints

a magnificent album produced by a prominent late-victorian hostess, patron of the arts, and gifted amateur artist. Helen Rose Huth (1837-1924), née Ogilvy, was the wife of Louis Huth, the director of an insurance company. The Huths were major collectors, and Helen sat for both james mcneill whistler and George Frederick Watts. The sittings for Whistler in the early 1870s resulted in the magnificent painting, 'Arrangement in Black, No. 2: Portrait of Mrs Louis Huth'.  After Huth's death in 1905 she married Archibald Howe.
