Catalogue Note

This type of travelling coffer also called a coffre en bahut was inspired by a larger type of chest which also had a similar function. It was of solid construction and the top was composed of four panels running horizontally and the front panels are usually carved and the side panels are carved with linenfold.

This coffer with a domed top is a rare example from this time and continued to be made until the 17th century but the decoration followed the style of the different periods.
