An English mahogany longcase clock, Thurstan Lassel Toxteth Park circa 1760

33-cm arched brass dial with foliate engraved centre, engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals signed Lassell Park and inner date numerals, pierced hands and lacking date pointer, cherub spandrels, recessed subsidiary seconds and moonphase to the arch with arched plate signed Thurstan Lassel Toxteth Park, weight driven anchor movement with trip repeating rack striking on a bell, mahogany veneered case with moulded break arch top surmounted by two turned finials, behind glass painted panels above the moulded break arch cornice and glazed door flanked by full corner columns, the trunk with quarter corner columns and long cross banded door with shaped top, moulded base with canted corners and cross banded panel, raised on bracket feet

With a typed note reading:

This longcase clock was given to my deceased grandfather Wilhelm Sebastian Rüppel, born 26 October 1803, as an honorary gift on the occasion of his retirement from his loyal long time service as the curator of the castle of Gottorf by Duke Friedrich. During the years of my boyhood, my grandfather bestowed the clock to his children, my parents, Joh. Adolph Ludwig Bockendahl, born 7 November 1826, died 16 Oktober 1902, and Sabine Marie Henriette, née Rüppel, born 30 January 1834, died 1 August 1895. Later my uncle, Julius Rüppel from Bergendorff, born 19 October 1831, died 17 July 1899, received the clock because of the shortage of space in my parent’s house. After his death the clock temporarily was given to the possession of his friend Carl Bewers, merchant in Hamburg, with the obligation that this family souvenir should be returned to me after his death. Since 1914 I am in the possession of this clock and hereby decide that after my decease it should be handed over to my children, Gottlieb Jahn and Marie Jahn née Bockendahl.
