Condition

The actual painting is less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is relined (wax). Minor thinness can be observed throughout. One repaired damage can be seen to the right of her head of ca. 10 x 10 cm., another smaller one can be seen to the left of her head of circa 5 x 5 cm. A larger repaired damage can be seen in her left arm of circa 15 cm. A diagonal surface scratch of circa 7 cm can be observed in the lower centre. Scattered tiny retouchings can be seen throughout, e.g. in the background, as well as a few tiny ones in her face. Strengthening can be seen in the table cloth. The painting is covered with a dirty varnish layer. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms the above. Offered in a black painted and gilt decorative crested wood frame with the coat of arms of the sitter, in good condition. (ML)
