the axe in fitted case, the head with the arms of Zeeland in enamel and inscribed 12 OCT. 1931. TEWATERLATING M.S. PRINSES JULIANA DE ROTTERDAMSCHE DROOGDOK MIJ., the interior cover fitted with compartment for the original axe head; the inkstand inscribed at the base M.S., "PRINSES JULIANA" 12/10 1931, marked with retailer's mark Sint Eloy, Rotterdam (5)

Catalogue Note

The Queen’s Commissioner in Zeeland in this role he received the commemorative inkstand and axe. Those objects were given on the occasion of the christening of the ferry boat the Prinses Juliana in 1931. Unfortunately this boat was sunken first by the French in 1940 and afterwards again by the Germans in 1944.
