Catalogue Note

first edition in english, the american edition, inscribed by jung ("Herrn Dr. Gerhard Adler In Dankbarkeit für alle Mühe und Sorgfalt, die Sie auf dieses nunmehr wohlgeratene Werk verwendet haben, Ihrer gedenkend der Verfasser. Juni 1953...").

This volume, a revised translation of Psychologie und Alchemie (Zürich, 1944), was number 12 of the Collected Works, and the first to appear. The warm inscription by Jung to Gerhard Adler, one of the editors of the series, finishes with the Latin sentence "Omnis festinatio ex parte diaboli est, et sic tam tarde advenit quam pulchre"('all haste is the work of the devil, and so this comes as tardily as it is beautiful').
