Catalogue Note

Kim Joon is known for his computer generated figures adorned with "social" tattoos, which represent the consumer culture of modern day Korea. In Bubbles, he uses bubbles to manifest the "bubble-like society" that is fueled by people's desire for wealth and elevated status. He explains, "I am interested in tattoos as a metaphor for hidden desire or a kind of compulsion engraved into human consciousness... Tattoos can reflect individual and collective reality or displaced desire."
