Catalogue Note

Memorial Jugs was conceived to honor a close friend of the artist who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Nagasawa's choice of copper for its energy transmission properties recalls Joseph Beuys' use of the same material. As a memorial work, however, the material highlights the transformation of familiar, nurturing softness and the cold chill of the unfamiliar and perilous.
