Catalogue Note

Makoto Saito's debut as a graphic designer in the early 1980s created a sensation as his images eradicated the conventional idea that advertisements should convey a single message.  Instead, his amiguous, almost bizarre images pose questions for the imagination.  As the artist explains, "ten people looking at my work an imagine ten different things."  His works are in the permanent collections of numerous museums around the world.
