Catalogue Note

Painted whilst the artist was at the Glasgow School of Art, this work shows the emergence of Saville's intense interest in the human body. Untitled (Foot Study) focuses upon an unconventional and awkward area of the body. Saville sculpts the flesh of the foot to give it a compelling vitality and a weighty, organic presence. She is “attracted to [Rembrandt’s] sweaty realism of dirty-bare feet.” 1
